James Beard’s Menus for Entertaining 1965

I just found this book in an antique store in Seattle and of course I had to have it. From 1965, this James Beard cookbook offers a selection of Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Buffet and Outdoor menus for entertaining a crowd. Don’t know who James Beard is? He’s only the Godfather of modern cooking and was a close friend of Julia Child’s. When you get an “Oscar” for cooking it’s called a James Beard award.
Since the weather has grown warmer and Summer is so close, I thought it would be prudent to show you one of his Outdoor Dinner Menus. This one is called “An Unusual Outdoor Dinner for 12 to 15″ and the menu features:
Stuffed Eggs
Scallions
Radishes
Kid on a Spit
Potatoes Anna
Bibb Lettuce and Cherry Tomato Salad
French Bread
Fresh Strawberry Ice Cream

Here are the photos of the pages actually from the book including the cover so you can see his adorable face. To get closer pictures of the pages to read the recipes just click on the picture and it should let you zoom in to read the pages. If you still need further reading assistance, just email me and I will email you the typed out recipe. Otherwise, enjoy this little encounter. And if you find this book in an antique store or online, I recommend grabbing your copy!
